We were thrilled to present The Blossom Award to Weis Markets on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 for their continued support of the supermarket exhibit and our programs! The Weis Supermarket at The Discovery Center was installed in 2009 and it is one of the most popular exhibits at the Museum. Almost every child that walks through our doors has “shopped” there and children are able to role play grocery manager, cashier and customer.
Harry and Sigmund Weis founded Weis Markets in 1912 in Sunbury, Pennsylvania. Today, Harry’s grandson, Jonathan oversees a company with stores in seven states. Built on self-reliance, they process their own milk and use the excess butterfat to make their Weis Quality Ice Cream – 60 flavors and growing! They are proud to support local farmers and their company and associates are committed to being good neighbors.
Each year, Weis Markets supports our events like Hippity Hop into Spring, Halloweekend at Ross Park, and Wizard of Oz Summer Carnival. Thank you to Weis Markets for being our good neighbor and for your continued support!
The Blossom Award, named after the Museum’s iconic bull statue, is given to organizations in recognition of their generous support and commitment to The Discovery Center’s Mission: to develop the intellectual, physical, and emotional well-being of the children of the Southern Tier through exhibits and programs that engage the senses, challenge the mind, and offer a diverse framework for discovery in the arts, sciences, and humanities.
