UPK Lead Teacher

Position Description/Responsibilities

The Discovery Center of the Southern Tier seeks a Pre-Kindergarten Lead Teacher to develop and implement educational programs in a preschool setting for 4 year old children in a partnership with The Binghamton City School District. In this role, you will create lesson plans, syllabi and maintain safety requirements for a classroom of up to 16 children. The UPK program follows a kindergarten readiness curriculum (Opening the World of Learning or OWL) supplied by the BCSD and State of New York. The teacher will be responsible for maintaining a good working relationship with the school district and attending all professional development opportunities. There are child observation and assessment requirements that require documentation on a quarterly basis and family/teacher conferences twice a year.

The ideal candidate will be creative, a team player, have an ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, and have an understanding of issues that may arise with young children and families. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have proven experience in planning and implementing curriculum for and management of a preschool classroom.

Required Skills/Experience

  • NYS Early Childhood Teacher (Birth – Grade 2) Certificate OR NYS Students with Disabilities (Birth – Grade 2) Certificate OR Bachelor’s degree in ECE or a related field AND have a written five year plan for becoming certified
  • Knowledge of lesson planning, development and implementation
  • Classroom management skills for preschool age children
  • Education plan detailing how the candidate will have a teaching certification and master’s degree within 5 years.

Desired Skills/Experience

  • 5+ years of teaching experience
  • 2+ years of curriculum development

Compensation

  • Salary Range is between $17.00-$19.00 an hour

Schedule

  • Monday-Friday, 8:00AM-4:00PM with breaks for holidays
