Julie Gartell and her family were looking for a way to honor their mother, who was also a beloved “Grammy,” and approached The Discovery Center with the idea of Grammy’s Garden. This idea is now growing into a new section of our Story Garden!
Artist Ciara Heatherman is crafting a personalized bench, and a mailbox to hold books about Grammy and the loving bond of family. Favorite plants such as peonies will “bloom” nearby.
The hope that the adjacent plot could also be upgraded into a perennial and pollinator section would require a lot of planning and heavy duty landscaping, but luckily for us, Eagle Scout candidate Gabe Wright needed a project to complete his Path to Eagle Scout. He approached The Discovery Center, asking if there was “something” available in The Story Garden that he could do that would match his skill set and our needs. We are very excited to see the results of these combined efforts!
