Police Car Exhibit Story Garden

New Police Car Exhibit Coming to the Story Garden

Construction is underway in our Story Garden in preparation for a new exhibit to be dedicated later this summer. Johnson City’s Police Department has donated fallen Officer D.W. Smith’s patrol car which will be housed in a garage designed, constructed and painted by BOCES students along with a Police Station.

Many community members have stepped in to help make this exhibit happen. Morrisville College auto mechanic students have refurbished the car and the wood for the buildings was donated by Belknap Lumber. Tim Baker and Overhead Doors of Owego donated the garage door for the police car and the constructed buildings were moved onsite at the Story Garden by Merv and Stan Stoltzfus. The cityscape will be dedicated on Truck Day on August 28, 2021.

The exhibit will feature “roads” for tricycles and other pedaled vehicles, “driving” the police car as well as educational information on good citizenship, laws and law enforcement – and of course, books! Contributions to the fund to complete this project can be made at The Discovery Center or through the Johnson City Police Benevolent Association.
