The Discovery Center is thrilled to announce the grand opening of its newest interactive exhibit, the Matthews Auto Service Center! Debuting on Friday, April 19, 2024, this exciting addition transforms the popular “Widgets and Gadgets” exhibit into a hands-on haven for budding mechanics, featuring a dedicated service bay complete with a realistic model car.
“We are constantly striving to create engaging experiences that spark curiosity and ignite a love for learning,” said Brenda Myers, Executive Director of The Discovery Center. “The Matthews Auto Service Center allows children to explore the inner workings of a car in a safe and stimulating environment.”
At the Matthews Auto Service Center, children can:
- Become junior mechanics: Check the oil level, examine the engine under the hood, and practice changing a tire with child-sized tools.
- Learn essential car care: Discover the importance of regular maintenance and safety checks.
- Fuel their imaginations: Spark creativity through pretend play scenarios where they diagnose and fix car troubles.
The Matthews Auto Service Center is designed to foster children’s interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through interactive play. By engaging in pretend-play scenarios, children develop problem-solving skills, learn basic car maintenance tasks, and discover the wonders of mechanical engineering.
The public is welcome to come experience the exhibit beginning Friday, April 19, 2024. Access to the exhibit is included with admission which is $10 per person and free for members and children under 1. Museum hours are Monday-Friday: 10AM-3PM; Saturday: 10AM-5PM; Sunday: 12PM-5PM.
