A couple of weeks ago we received a gift from a donor who had never given to The Discovery Center before. I can’t tell you how full my heart was when I learned that gift was from a young woman in her early 20’s. She told me she “grew up” in The Discovery Center and even though she lived in NYC – a place we all know has been so hard hit by COVID-19 – she wanted to give back to The Discovery Center because it held such a special place in her own heart.
This donor somehow knew that The Discovery Center is facing some significant financial hurdles. Like so many other small businesses and nonprofits in this community, having to keep our doors closed for the last several months has had a very real impact. Since we won’t be able to open the Museum until Phase 4, we still have at least another month to continue without bringing in admissions revenue, holding birthday parties, or offering family-friendly events.
Right now our Museum team is working on redesigning many of our exhibits to ensure that families have plenty of space to socially distance during their visit. Safety is our top priority so many high-touch exhibit features will be removed. Sanitizing mats at our entrance, enhanced cleaning protocols, and reducing the number of visitors in the Museum, are just the start of the changes we are making to ensure your family’s safety. We will likely be delaying many of our family-friendly events and postponing fundraisers until we can ensure we can offer them safely.
That’s why I am asking – if The Discovery Center holds a special place in your family’s hearts – that you consider making a gift today.
Gratefully,
Jessie
