The Discovery Center and Roberson Museum and Science Center are excited to share that they are in discussions about a potential affiliation. The conversations are being facilitated by the New York Council of Nonprofits (NYCON), the foremost experts on New York State nonprofit law and governance.
Both organizations share similar missions, although have historically served different demographics of patrons. Discussions are intended to identify how both organizations could affiliate for the purpose of bringing new and exciting offerings to a broader segment of our community. Affiliation is particularly important at a time when many organizations are struggling to continue to innovate and improve while facing a declining population and sources of funding.
There is significant support from funders to see similar organizations like The Discovery Center and Roberson find efficiencies and work more closely together. The goal of the conversations between these two museums is to create a more sustainable model that meets the needs of the community. The developing affiliation has the potential to be transformative for Greater Binghamton.
