SPECIAL PERFORMANCE (for ages 6-12 and their families):
Dive into the vibrant world of award-winning author and illustrator Andrea and Brian Pinkney, where music becomes the heartbeat of storytelling. In this dynamic and interactive program, the Pinkneys will ignite the imaginations and musical passions of children as they share the rhythmic pulse and bold artistry of their renowned books.
Prepare to sing, clap, and sway as the Pinkneys bring their iconic music-themed stories to life. Expect a kaleidoscope of experiences, from the electrifying rhythms of “Rhythm Ride: A Road Trip through the Motown Sound” to the soulful spirit of “Alvin Ailey”. Experience the vibrant legacy of “Duke Ellington,” the Caldecott Award-winning and Coretta Scott King Award medal-winning masterpiece, and discover the indomitable spirit of Ella Fitzgerald through “Ella Fitzgerald: The Tale of a Vocal Virtuosa” and “Ella Fitzgerald: She Persisted.”
But this isn’t just a reading – it’s a full-fledged performance! Get ready for storytelling magic, group singalongs, percussive grooves, scat singing workshops, gospel harmonies, poetry in motion, captivating images, and a dash of theatricality. The Pinkneys will have your children tapping their toes, moving to the beat, and leaving with hearts full of rhythm and minds buzzing with creative inspiration.
This program is designed for children ages 6-12 and their families, with only 100 seats available. Pre-registration is required. Admission for non-members is $10 and free for members.
