Grand Opening of The Discovery Center’s New Solar Clubhouse
Attention young environmental avengers! The Discovery Center is looking for clubhouse members for the new Solar Clubhouse here at The DC! Join us September 18th for initiation day as we open the doors of our solar powered clubhouse sponsored by ETM Solar Works, a community based solar energy provider with more than 20 years experience bringing the resources of space right here to Earth! Visit www.etmsolar.com. Meet Rocket Scientist and ETM founder, Dr. Gay Canough, and learn about “terrestrial” solar energy! Bring your favorite adult -there will be plenty for adults and kids alike to learn and do! Activities begin at 11:00a.m with an ENERGIZING presentation sure warm the heart of anyone concerned about the environment. Then join us for a day filled with activities, make and take projects and demonstrations. Free t-shirts will be given out to the first clubhouse members so come early! Special Starlab presentations available through out the day for an additional $1 per star gazer! All other activities free with admission!
Fire Safety on Columbus Day
Join us and the Binghamton Fire Department on Monday, October 11th for a day filled with fun and learning all about Fire Safety. The Binghamton Fire Department will be on hand with a fire truck and activities to keep you and your loved ones informed about fire safety. Meet some Firefighters; see a demonstration; learn about smoke detectors, planning fire escape routes and family meeting places. There will be food sales in our café from 11am-1pm, so make it a day with us! Special activities with the BFD Firefighters will be ongoing from 11am-3pm. All activities free with museum admission.
Monster Mash Halloween Dance Party With D.J. Johnny Only!
Saturday, October 23rd Put on your costume and dance on over to The Discovery Center for a day of Halloween activities. It is going to be so much fun it is almost scary! Trick or treat through the museum (and The Story Garden too weather permitting!) make some crafts, have your fortune told, mix some potions and rattle your bones to “The Monster Mash” and other favorite tunes! All activities included with admission. Join us for lunch! Food Sales 11:00-1:00. Dance Party 1:00- 2:30. Trick or Treating 2:30-3:15.
Adult Masquerade Ball to Benefit The Discovery Center
Find a marvelous mask and wear it well…so your true identity no one can tell! Terra Cotta Catering & The Discovery Center invite you to a Masquerade Ball (masks only) and festive evening of intrigue, mystery and fantasy on Saturday, October 30th, 8pm till midnight, 81 State St., Binghamton. This will be a classic cocktail party with a mysterious twist and live entertainment by Brotherhood for your listening and dancing pleasure. The evening includes; an elegant array of fresh vegetables, fresh fruits, gourmet cheeses and specialty crackers, chef’s variety of butlered hors d’oeuvres, a savory carving station and cash bar. Bookfest! Saturday, November 20th
The Discovery Center and our friends at Four County Library, invite you to spend a free day at the museum celebrating children’s literature! A current library card will be your ticket to fun as community members host activity tables that explore the wonderful world of books! “Recycle” will be the word of the day as you try your hand at collage with pop artist Michael Albert. “Sir Real” as Michael calls himself, will have you turning cereal boxes into real works of art! Go on a scavenger hunt based on the classic Dr. Seuss book, “The Lorax”
Save This Date for Holiday Family Fun for All Ages!
Save the date for a Holiday Trivia and Trimmings Party with Johnny Only at The Discovery Center on Friday, December 3rd. Gather a team of ten (10) from your office, relatives, neighbors or friends and reserve your table now for a family friendly “fun”d raiser that is sure to put you in the holiday spirit! There will be questions for young and old alike and D.J. Johnny Only will be sure to keep the children entertained as your team competes for prizes. The evening begins at 5:00pm with free play in the museum, pictures with Santa Claus and the opening of our Gingerbread Village. Dinner begins at 6:00pm with a countdown to Trivia at 6:30. What could be more special than a birthday party at The Discovery Center? We have party packages to fit all budgets. Packages include invitations, unlimited play in the museum for your guests, one hour in a private party room for happy cake & ice cream, presents and games (includes 15 mins. prior to for set-up and afterward for clean-up).
