The Discovery Center is a hands on,
interactive museum for children and their families.
Shop in the “Littlest” Giant Market, become a pilot and fly a plane. Our life-size fire truck is available to explore along with the full dress uniform of a busy and dedicated fire fighting professional. If you want to share your happy smile, we have an Action News television studio all set-up for you complete with a video monitor and weather maps. 
If the medical field is more your style, the hospital and dentist office should satisfy even the most curious of visitors. The artist in everyone can blossom in our Studio 60 where you can create your own drawings and take them home with you or step inside a giant bubble. There is a never-ending supply of imagination and fun to explore!

Grand Opening of The Discovery Center’s New Solar Clubhouse
Attention young environmental avengers! The Discovery Center is looking for clubhouse members for the new Solar Clubhouse here at The DC! Join us September 18th for initiation day as we open the doors of our solar powered clubhouse sponsored by ETM Solar Works, a community based solar energy provider with more than 20 years experience bringing the resources of space right here to Earth! Visit www.etmsolar.com. Meet Rocket Scientist and ETM founder, Dr. Gay Canough, and learn about “terrestrial” solar energy! Bring your favorite adult -there will be plenty for adults and kids alike to learn and do! Activities begin at 11:00a.m with an ENERGIZING presentation sure warm the heart of anyone concerned about the environment. Then join us for a day filled with activities, make and take projects and demonstrations. Free t-shirts will be given out to the first clubhouse members so come early! Special Starlab presentations available through out the day for an additional $1 per star gazer! All other activities free with admission.
Susquehanna River Trail - Opening Saturday, October 16th! Follow the “Mighty Susquehanna” in our new water exhibit “The Susquehanna River Trail”. Investigate our very own Susquehanna River as it flows through 6 states (Delaware, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia) and the District of Columbia through miles of communities until it meets the Chesapeake Bay. Take a peak into our aquatic tanks to see what swims in The Susquehanna and the creatures that call the Chesapeake Bay home. Learn about the hurdles that impact the plants and animals of the Susquehanna and the Chesapeake Bay watershed and explore what we can do to help. Fun is sure to be had as you play in the new water play table full of “Bay creatures”!
A Village of Gingerbread – Our Community! Calling all community members – scout troops, chefs, schools, bakers and everyday cooks! It’s time to get out your apron and rolling pin and mix up a batch of gingerbread fun for The Discovery Center’s 10th Annual Village of Gingerbread Exhibit! All are invited to create a little gingerbread magic as we celebrate our community. This year’s theme will highlight the people in our community and where they work and play– fire stations, schools, libraries, hospitals, parks, stores and more! Just pick your favorite and call The Discovery Center to register (773-8661 ext 210) and then pick up a board for your gingerbread structure. Entries must be submitted by Monday, November 29th. All participants will receive a pass for free play in the museum on opening day, December 4th. Come celebrate “A Village of Gingerbread – Our Community” from Saturday, December 4th through Sunday, January 9th. Happy Baking!
Santa’s Workshop – Opening November 20th-January 9th – Santa needs to use The Discovery Center’s workshop to keep up with production because so many boys and girls have been good this year! The elves could sure use your help! Just pick up a tap hammer and join in the fun with an investigation of toys and how they work!
Open Wide Dental

We are all grins as we open our newly remodeled dental exhibit thanks to The New York State Dental Association, Broome County and Sixth District Dental Societies, Patterson Dental and our special friends Dr. Scott Farrell, Dr. Robert Giannuzzi, Dr. Mark Hatala, Dr. Alfonso Perna and Dr. Vivian Rejebian. Make an office visit to our expanded space and have a seat in our new state of the art dental chair-it is so comfy you may forget you are there for a dental visit!

Learn about some dos and don’ts to keeping your smile bright and take on the dental decay challenge super hero style with “Plaque Buster” and “The Cavi-tator” costumes thanks to our heroes the “Super Seamstresses” Judy Dennis, Joan Hunt, Teri Coyne-Horton and Linda Williams.
EcoKids
EcoKids, our newest exhibit, opens just in time for Earth Day so…Go Climb a Tree! Into our new tree house that is! Ever wonder who lives in a tree? Investigate life within a forest with a study of birds, bugs and woodland creatures! Dig in the Dino Dig and see what makes the earth really rock with our new minerals and rocks displays.
Play in a forest friend costume and take a scientific look using our giant microscope! Then do your part to keep the world green by planting seeds in a recycled container!
Pedal Power!
Have you ever gotten on a bicycle and wondered how it works? Lots of people know how to ride a bike, but few know exactly how they do it! The Discovery Center’s exhibit Pedal Power investigates the simple machines that make up the workings of the bicycle with an exciting investigation of the evolution of the hobby horse to what we know as the bicycle of today. Learn about the inventions that were made along the way, the social changes that came about all because of the two wheeled machine and some important safety tips to keep you on the bike path to fitness! Try a bicycle built for two, power up an appliance by pedaling, and gear up for fun!
